Hi, I’m Maria. And I’m a blogger.
What did you immediately assume after seeing that I was a blogger? Who did you picture? Where did you picture them?
A few days ago in class I was asked to write down what came to mind when I thought of a blogger. Here’s what immediately came to mind:
1) A 34 year old man sitting in his parent’s basement. He hovers over the computer like it’s some sort of god-like figure as he compares and contrasts the computer games, Dwarf Fortress and Elderlands, while eating a cheese sandwich his mom just brought down for him.
2) A 14 year old preteen sitting in her closet venting about how the world will never understand her and the true bond of love that exists between Justin Bieber and herself.
3) Cat Lady. Need I say say more?
But my definition of a blogger is transforming and I encourage you to rethink your personal stereotypes of bloggers. Nowadays, bloggers are everyone from NYTimes columnists to expeditioners!
So the question is….what do you think of when you think of a blogger? Has this definition changed overtime? How so?
