“Jane Doe has changed her relationship status to single.”
I really enjoyed reading “Breakup 2.0” (an article by Barbara Kantrowitz and Pat Wingert) because I could completely relate to the stories they were telling. I’ve never been the victim of a text-message break up, but I have watched numerous friends’ relationships begin and end via technology.
I know couples who talk more through Facebook and texting than they do in real life! Some people prefer cyberspace relationships! I have a friend who was going to break up with her boyfriend so she texted him to ask when a good time to meet up or call would be and he actually made her break up with him over texts because he didn’t want to talk to her!
Personally, I think technology breakups are sad. Kantrowitz and Wingert make a good point that no matter what way you do it, someone always gets hurt. However, I feel that you owe whoever you were with the respect of speaking to them in person (or on the phone if you physically couldn’t go to them).
Technology should ENHANCE our relationships, not REPLACE them!
